What do we have this week? Well, it's been quiet on the retro scene in the toy aisle lately, so I was happily surprised when I saw these classic 90's ToyBiz inspired Marvel Figures. This Marvel Legends wave showcases six iconic figures from the Marvel universe. Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Punisher, Spider-Man, and Wolverine. I grabbed my two favorites for this review, Spider-Man, and Wolverine!
Those who grew up in the early 90's may remember ToyBiz. The Marvel owned toy company that held the license for the Marvel figs back in the day. Who can't forget the energy Marvel had in the early 90's! It seemed like everyone was collecting comics and getting your hands on them was a simple bike ride to 7-Eleven. With the X-Men cartoon series on Fox Kids, then the release of Marvel cards, we were in no shortage of Marvel fueled hype!
Fast forward to 2017 and today we have been treated to a nostalgic blast from the past with these various released Marvel characters. For those who already have these figs from previous releases, move on as very little has changed other than paint schemes. The packaging, which follows very closely to the 90's ToyBiz Marvel Super Heroes classic toy line, would be the cool factor here. Everyone else, let's look closer at what you get with these iconic characters, Spider-Man and Wolverine.
Up first is Spider-Man, with his matte finish and detailed paint, he looks the part. His articulation is very pleasant and comes accessorized with a separate head sculpt and a slice of pizza. The head sculpt shows lower part of Peters' face, and the pizza looks fantastic! Wierd though, hands can be removed, but none others are included. It would have been nice as the web-slinging hands limit his poses. I think I'm spoiled by the SH Figuarts quality of articulation points since this these seem to have visual distortions at the waist, especially Spider-Mans. Shoulders slide back, and the head is on a ball joint. They did great with his feet as they can be pivoted in just about any direction.
These are great for new comers into the world of Marvel collecting, otherwise, unless you love the packaging, not sure if it would be worth the 20 bucks, as you probably already have these laying around. Still, great figures that really take me back to the 90's Marvel explosion!
